๐ท๏ธ Spider-Man: Brand New Day Tracking: $40M Presales, $300M Opening Question
Elliot Kang tracks Spider-Man: Brand New Day's record $40M Fandango presales, the raised $260-300M opening projection, and whether a constrained IMAX slate keeps it under $300M.

Forty million dollars in presales. That's Spider-Man: Brand New Day's domestic Fandango tally before a single ticket has been torn, and it's the biggest first-day presale of 2026 โ ahead of The Odyssey, Christopher Nolan's own record-setter. Sony and Marvel open the film wide on July 31. The projection underneath that number just moved, hard.
Elliot's call: the opening lands high, north of No Way Home's $260.1M, and I still don't have it clearing $300M. The presales say the demand is there. The screens say the capacity might not be. Both things are on this page, and the gap between them is the whole story. My verdict: $270-290M domestic, second-biggest opening of the year is a lock, second-biggest opening ever is not.
Where the number stands, July 24, 2026
| Metric | Brand New Day | No Way Home (2021) | Endgame (2019) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domestic presales | $40M+ (2026 record) | โ | โ |
| Opening (proj./actual) | $260-300M (proj.) | $260.1M | $357.1M |
| Opens | Jul 31, 2026 | Dec 17, 2021 | Apr 26, 2019 |
Data as of July 24, 2026. Presale and projection figures via ComicBook.com and Global Box Office; historical opening actuals for No Way Home and Endgame are studio-reported.
The range that matters is $260-300M. Read the endpoints. The floor, $260M, is No Way Home to the dollar โ that film opened to $260.1M in December 2021, the third-biggest domestic opening on record. The ceiling, $300M, has been cleared exactly once. Avengers: Endgame, $357.1M, April 2019. Nothing else in movie history has opened above three hundred. So the projection's high end isn't "a big opening." It's "the second-biggest opening ever recorded," and that's a different sentence.
Grading the old number: tracking was $110M light
Give the earlier read its due, then bury it. Studio tracking had Brand New Day at $180-190M as recently as the prior weekend, with Deadline's floor sitting at $180M-plus. The new midpoint is $280M. Call the old midpoint $185M and the raise runs about $95M โ a 51% jump in the projection inside roughly a week, driven by what one tracking outfit flatly called a massive spike in presales.
Projections don't move 51% on vibes. They move when the pre-sale curve outruns the model, and a $40M first-day presale is exactly the kind of input that breaks a $180M model. The biggest-opening-2026 tracking picture has been climbing for two weeks; this is where it stopped being a Marvel-comeback story and started being a records story.
That's the part every competitor is running. Here's the part they aren't.
The proprietary read: presales are the demand, IMAX is the ceiling
Presales measure how many people want in. They don't measure how many seats exist at the price that makes an opening weekend enormous. Those are two different numbers, and the second one is where I'm docking the projection.
A $300M opening isn't built from standard-format tickets. It's built from premium large-format โ IMAX, Dolby, PLF houses charging $22-26 a seat instead of $14. Endgame's $357.1M leaned on a wall-to-wall premium slate; No Way Home's $260.1M did too. Those runs owned the top-dollar screens on opening weekend. Brand New Day may not get to.
The Odyssey is still holding IMAX and premium large-format screens deep into late July, weeks into its own run. That's the swing factor. Every IMAX house Nolan's film keeps through July 31 is a house Brand New Day can't fill at $24 a ticket on its opening Friday. I'm not saying Sony walks in with zero premium screens โ I'm saying the premium slate is contested in a way No Way Home's December-2021 corridor never was, because nothing that summer was defending IMAX the way The Odyssey's $124M opening earned it the right to.
Do the demand math and the ceiling math separately. Demand: a 2026-record $40M presale says the audience is No Way Home-sized or bigger. Ceiling: constrained premium capacity says the per-cap can't fully convert that demand into the top of the range. Multiply a huge crowd by a suppressed premium mix and you get a number in the high $200s โ enormous, franchise-validating, and short of the record line.
That's the mechanism. High demand, capped conversion. It's why I've got the floor of this projection more likely than the ceiling.
What clears $300M and what doesn't
For the high end to hit, one of two things happens. Either exhibitors flip a wave of premium screens off The Odyssey and onto Spider-Man the week of July 25 โ possible, and the single variable I'd watch hardest โ or the standard-format multiplier runs so hot that Brand New Day gets to $300M without the IMAX cushion its predecessors leaned on. The second path has no precedent. No film has ever posted a $300M opening on a thin premium slate. Ever.
The likelier outcome is cleaner than the drama around it. Brand New Day opens somewhere between No Way Home's $260.1M and roughly $290M, becomes the biggest opening of 2026 by a wide margin โ clear of The Odyssey's $124.5M โ and gives Marvel Studios its best opening since Endgame. A very good weekend. Just not a top-two-ever one, unless the screen math breaks its way in the final week. The full Marvel Studios box-office record has room for this either way; it's the difference between a great chapter and a historic one.
For the range spelled out dollar by dollar, the Brand New Day predictions breakdown runs the scenarios; this page tracks the one number that decides them.
Next catalysts
Two dates. First, the week of July 25 โ watch the premium-format allocation. If IMAX and Dolby houses start clearing The Odyssey for Spider-Man, the $300M ceiling gets live and I'll move my call. If they don't, the floor holds and high-$200s is the number.
Second, July 31 itself. Thursday previews post that night, and previews are the tell โ they'll say within hours whether this is a $260M weekend or a record run. Either way, Brand New Day is about to become 2026's biggest opening. The only question left is whether it becomes one of the two biggest ever, and $40M in presales bought the ticket to ask it.

Frequently asked questions
โธHow much has Spider-Man: Brand New Day made in presales?
Domestic Fandango presales have passed $40M, the biggest first-day presale of 2026, outpacing The Odyssey. That's the number pushing the opening projection up. The film opens wide July 31, 2026.
โธHow big will Spider-Man: Brand New Day's opening weekend be?
The current projection is $260-300M domestic, raised from earlier studio tracking of $180-190M after a presales spike. The low end ties No Way Home's $260.1M; the high end would be the second-biggest opening ever.
โธCan Brand New Day open to $300M?
Only Avengers: Endgame ($357.1M) has opened above $300M domestic. Brand New Day would be the second, but premium large-format capacity is constrained by The Odyssey holding IMAX screens into late July, which caps the top-dollar seats available.
