Is this the biggest Toy Story ever?

Not until it clears $1.074 billion. That's Toy Story 4's final worldwide gross, and it edges out Toy Story 3's $1.067 billion by a hair the franchise itself probably forgot. From $958M, the film needs $116 million to pass Toy Story 4 and take the crown outright. Trade projections have floated a final total near $1.1 billion, which would clear both.

I'd bet it gets there, but the word "milestone" is doing quiet work here. Inside this family, a billion is the second-best result, not the ceiling — the same asterisk that hangs over its $400 million domestic crossing, where the real target was always Toy Story 4's $434M domestic finish, not the round number. A fifth entry out-earning the summer is genuinely rare. A fifth entry topping its own franchise peak is the harder trick, and it isn't done.

The precedent argues for patience. Toy Story 4 didn't open to a billion. It opened to $118 million and legged out to more than nine times that worldwide. Toy Story 5's current $958M is already 6x its own opening weekend, and it's still in theaters. This series doesn't front-load and fade. It compounds.

The reviews never justified the number, for the record. Toy Story 5 grades at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, the lowest critic score any mainline entry has posted, against a 95% audience score. The gap between those two figures is the whole business model. Critics rank the series; parents rank the ticket, and the ticket is winning by $958 million.

What decides the rest of the run?

Two lines on the board. First, the exact weekend it crosses a billion, likely the next completed frame, barring a collapse no fifth-weekend hold suggests.
